Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March of 2012. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th of next year, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts. That gives users (and Facebook addicts) a year to adjust to life without Facebook.

In one of the first cases of its kind in Britain, Glenn Steven Mangham, 25, used “considerable technical expertise” to repeatedly bypass security at the world’s dominant social network, it was claimed.

The student, from York, faces five charges, including that he “made, adapted, supplied or offered to supply” a computer program to hack into a Facebook server, Westminster magistrates’ court heard.

Police sources described the incidents as one of the first investigations into attempts to illegally access the site, which boasts more than 750 million members worldwide.

One Scotland Yard source told The Daily Telegraph that detectives were not aware of any hacking attempts “to this extent” on the site in Britain. It is understood Mangham does not have a Facebook profile.

Mangham was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Central e-Crime Unit in early June on suspicion of “computer hacking offences” before being charged earlier this month.

Don’t be tricked by the impossibly good offers that have lately been popping up on Facebook profiles. There are no free ticket giveaways – there’s only the possibility of getting your profile abused by the applications that you are required to install in order to receive them.

Supposedly, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways are giving free tickets to Facebook users, but that could not be further from the truth.

Actually, if you click on the offered link you are asked to install a third-party application – “4freedeltatickets” or “JetBlue Family” – that requests you permission to access your basic profile information, send you e-mails, post on your Wall, access your data any time, and manage your events and pages.

FaceBook has officially opened their first office in Hyderabad, also known as Cyberabad, India this week. As one of the largest social networks on the web, the office finds itself in the same city where other major technology companies also have their base of operations like Google, Alcatel Lucent, Amazon, HP, Dell, IBM, Motorola, Oracle and Deloitte.

The new offices come at a significant time in Facebook’s international growth. Seventy percent of people using Facebook are from outside the United States and are accessing the service from more than 70 different languages. In India alone, Facebook has seen a rapid growth over the last few months and now have more than 8 million people there actively connecting on Facebook regularly with their friends, family, and other people they know, both within India and around the world.
